The dead are sitting in heaven watching life one earth and their own funerals through large telescopes. Little Carla’s cremation and her burial in a butterfly coffin out in the open countryside is one of the wonderful small ceremonies recounted here, just like a stormy burial at sea from an ancient tug boat, the funeral procession of tractors in a small village, and the farewell ceremony of an old lady who decides to part with her life on her birthday. And always something happens that shouldn’t – not at a funeral! The film recounts life’s little mishaps with dry humour, tenderness and mischief.
