The friends Mathilde, Firmine and Louise live in Carhaix, a small town in the heart of Brittany. Both Mathilde, a midwife, and Firmine, a nurse, work in the local hospital. Louise is the proud owner of a bowling alley where the three often meet in the evenings. When Catherine is sent from the hospital headquarters in the big city to audit the profitability of the hospital, the bowling trio gets a fourth partner. As Catherine settles into life in the French provinces and starts to appreciate the locals’ warm-heartedness and honesty, it becomes clear that she will have to close down the hospital’s maternity ward as part of the restructuring plans. Pretty soon, the whole town is protesting, first and foremost Mathilde, Firmine and Louise. Catherine, too, realizes what is at stake and that some things are far more valuable than pure profit. Together, they try to save the maternity ward.
