Bagi, a 17-year-old shepherd boy, and his family live in the frozen steppes of Mongolia. He is confronted with his destiny to become a shaman – a destiny he is not willing to accept. When a cattle plague hits the steppes, all animals are put in quarantine and the nomads are forcibly relocated to desolate mining towns. Bagi finds out that the plague is a mere lie fabricated to wipe out nomadism. With the help of Zolzaya, a beautiful coal thief, he unleashes a revolution.
