Sandu, a 13-year-old gypsy, wants to go to Canada, as do five other people – men, women und a child, all of them illegally. Six people, six lives, six fates that meet. And all are driven by the same desire: To reach the other shore where life is better. The crossing takes a week. Hidden in a container, hunger, thirst and fear are their companions. Fear not to make it, fear to lose their minds, fear not to reach the promised land. Half-way across the ocean the ship’s engines break down. Food and water are used up. But the crew remain watchful, orders are strict: no illegal immigrants are to disembark. Sandu leaves the container to explore the ship. The refugees’ hope rests on his slim shoulders. The sailors begin their chase …
