The Afro-American singer and dancer Carole Alston came to Vienna thirty years ago. Research for a new stage program takes her back to her old homeland where she traces the footsteps of her musical sisters Alberta Hunter, Nina Simone and Sarah Vaughn. This search for the origins of jazz and blues in New York, New Orleans and in the Mississippi Delta bring Carole closer to her own roots. The story of slavery and segregation in the USA become tangible and perceptible through the music and life stories of these courageous women who fought against inequality.
