KRIEG UND FRIEDEN (WAR AND PEACE), the third omnibus film Alexander Kluge initiated after DEUTSCHLAND IM HERBST (GERMANY IN AUTUMN; 1978) and DER KANDIDAT (THE CANDIDATE; 1980) – that eleven respectively four German filmmakers worked on – deals with the NATO military buildup with middle-range missiles (Pershing II), Cruise Missiles and neutron bombs, planned for late 1983. The films employs means of fiction and documentation and talks about war and armament, disarmament and peace.
