Everything implodes when 17-year-old Thomas meets his father Niels’ new girlfriend out of the blue during a holiday. Enraged, Thomas flees, for the attractive woman at his father’s side is not really “new” to him: of all people, it’s his teacher Angélica Caraballo who seems to be the reason for his parents’ divorce.

Thomas does his own thing, all by himself. Just like Djamile. The 20-year-old Congolese just barely survives her escape from Libya across the Mediterranean, in an hopelessly overcrowded rubber boat packed with 40 refugees under the most extreme of conditions. After landing, she wanders off to the next holiday resort where she meets Thomas who’s out and about on his motorcycle trying to let off steam. He hides Djamile in his hotel room. After a short while, the two develop a strange closeness and seem to find strength in one another.

But when Niels and Angélica find out about Thomas’ secret guest and realize she’s not merely a harmless holiday flirt, the situation escalates.
Niels puts it all down to protest on his son’s part and urges him to abandon his sense of responsibility for Djamile. But Angélica senses that a fundamental solution needs to be found. Together with Thomas she tries to find an alternative so that Djamile can stay in Europe legally.

When Djamile one night disappears from the hotel, Thomas starts searching for her. He doesn’t realize that his relationship with Djamile is putting him in a situation that is like a ticking bomb …
