After an accident, Johnny Berger is tied to a wheelchair. He keeps more and more to himself and creates his own imaginary world of computers and amateur radio. His personality completely changed, he spends hours on his new favourite pastime using a scanner to eavesdrop on conversations on mobile phones. He tapes the conversations and harasses the callers with anonymous phone calls. But one day he listens in on a conversation he’d rather not have heard.
