Harry Bendiner, a Jewish pensioner, lives by himself in his apartment in Miami Beach. When his new neighbour, Ethel, a lively woman in her mid-50‘s, knocks at his door, his life takes a turn for the better. Unexpectedly, Harry experiences a love-affair late in life.
