The films deals with a phase in the life of two people who never actually meet: child carer Doris having to take a four-year-old to its parents in Northern Africa (Doris: ‘I want to see foreign countries, negroes, lions and palm trees. In films you always feel the warm breeze of the desert wind’) and boss-eyed builder Robert hoping to solve all his problems with an eye surgery and whose wife Lieselotte comes to the conclusion: ‘All humans are bound to die/Perhaps even I/I ask the question/Whether dying is hereditary./When giving up the ghost, my father/Let go of the bottle/My mother, bless her/Died at work./I know somebody/My husband/Who sent me packing/I’ve done him no harm/Quite on the contrary./It’s always solid things I respect/But this thickhead/Feels sorry for himself./I’m sure I’m much better off.
