Germany is respected as much as feared by her neighbours as the greatest economic power in Europa. Apart from Nazis, the ‘beer festival’ and bratwurst very little is known abroad about Germany. The film tries to reconstruct the verdicts and prejudices with which the international and the German media have been reporting on Germany in the course of the last 44 years.

Weird, satirical, funny, nostalgic, and sometimes sad images present not only their contents, but also date them. It is a compilation from commercials, news-reel footage, documentaries and propaganda films from 1945 to 1989 both entertaining and surprising, edited into an emotional collage of West German society and character.
