When 10-year-old Maya and her family fly to Thailand for her grandmother’s funeral in a small, forgotten village by the sea, she’s all of a sudden confronted with her German-Thai reality. Her father’s ignorance towards the foreign culture and her mother’s withdrawal into a world of rites and customs unknown to Maya lead to an awkward silence. The tropical heat and the inability to mourn the grandmother’s death as a family cause the parents’ pent-up emotions to escalate. Faced with the tense atmosphere, Maya tries to find answers her own way …
