Eight groups of girlfriends from Latvia – Latvians and Russians of various ages and different social backgrounds – all speak about the past, the present and the future. They discuss Latvian identity and the integration of the Russians, about men, love and their beliefs. They share memories and thoughts, fears and weaknesses, they rant and argue, ponder and philosophize – about their own lives and their country. Teenagers from the “Moscow Street”, today the poorest Russian community in Riga, street car conductors, flower sellers, artists, old friends who survived the Gulag – they all offer insight into their thoughts and feelings.
