Where once there were small villages, now a huge bulldozer is digging up the remains of the largest brown coal field in Europe. This is where Charlotte lives with her mother, two of the last inhabitants of what has become a ghost town. The demolition of the town is imminent and Charlotte tries to convince her mother to give up. But the battle continues against the final resettlement and drives Charlotte into the arms of a charming negotiator of the brown coal company. But when he resorts to drastic measures to drive the family out of the house, Charlotte switches sides …
