Kathrin and her 17-year-old daughter, Suse, have gone to Berlin for a short trip. The parents have very recently been divorced. Kathrin’s intention is to give Suse and thereby herself a break from the entrenched battles of marriage warfare.

But mother and daughter cannot just ignore themselves and their problems. They have an argument. In a café, Suse walks out on her mother. While back at the hotel bar Kathrin gets to know a recently divorced man and by talking to him realizes that she can’t just obliterate the pain the divorce causes her, Suse meets a young man and through him becomes aware of the hurt and anguish her mother is experiencing. Both see the other’s situation as if in a mirror.

The next morning, they meet up in their hotel room and for the first time manage to reach out to each other again.
