Germany in the near future: a time in which many people have lost their jobs to automation. For Kaspar Enders, it’s love at first sight when he meets the young employee who accompanies him to his interview with the Adaline Corporation. The company boss, Dr. Alan Bishop, gives Kaspar the job and, right away, his first assignment. He is supposed to develop an advertising concept for one of the company’s latest products. The product in question is a robot, one which not only looks like a human being, but can also express feelings. When Dr. Bishop introduces the young woman who accompanied Kaspar to his interview as the prototype for the robot, Kaspar can hardly believe it.

Kaspar’s job is to present the prototype named Synia to potential investors and land fresh capital for the Adaline Corporation. During the process, Kaspar and Synia get closer. Synia exudes a strange fascination on Kaspar. The feelings he felt from the very beginning can no longer be simply turned off.

After the presentation, however, Kaspar starts to get the impression that something is just not right with the whole situation. But the more he tries to find out about the origins of the project, the more his world spins out of control.
