How do we live with love today? What does romance mean in our everday lives? The protagonists of ICH DICH AUCH are accompanied by “love experts” from science and the arts who offer us astonishing insights into the mysteries of love. Psychological, philosophical, scientific and legal concepts grapple to explain the phenomenon.

The vividly biographical descriptions – and omissions – of the interview partners’ “love stories” are personal struggles for acceptance and boundaries that are just as vividly comprehensible as their pleasures of security, their disappointments, losses and illusions of love.

In interviews with couples and singles of different ages and from varying backgrounds, the film traces lived experiences with love. That’s why it is sometimes the little pauses, the covert glances and gestures, slight contradictions and even the silences and stumbling in the narrations that provide a direct access to their hearts. Between prosaic everyday life and lyrical flights of hope, everyone maintains the desire to experience that wonderful moment in which it is more than just a cliché to say: I love you.
