The centrepoint of this film is Tangier, Europe’s gateway to Africa, and its legendary reputation during the forties and fifties when the city was an international zone, a playground for mad millionaires and famous artists, a focal point for secret agents and crooks of all kinds, a Mekka for speculators and gamblers, an eldorado for the fun-loving Haute Volée.
The film about these ‘golden years’ recreates the myth in the fashion of a documentary homage. The recollections of famous and unknown witnesses of these legendary years blend with archive material and present-day impressions, bound together by the story of a former secret diplomat visiting the ‘white city’ of Tangier for the first time in forty years.
