The film accompanies three different correspondents to Afghanistan.
For Austrian reporter Ewald, the assignment is cut short at the point of departure when he recognizes a figure from the past and decides to follow him: a war criminal from the Yugoslavian War, the man who shot Ewald’s cameraman in cold blood. Miles away, in Afghanistan, American reporter Lana struggles to gain her male colleagues’ respect for her work as an on-the-ground correspondent. But Lana is stubborn and a damn good journalist. She finds out where the two American soldiers accused of burning the Quran, Fitz and Bergmann, are hiding. An interview with them could be her big break. Cal, an American Afghanistan reporter, and his editorial team have set up camp, waiting to finally be able to report on the death and destruction from the expected riots. But the war doesn’t start. Cal is expected to generate sensational news even from the thinnest of stories and begins to question the machinery of modern day media coverage.
